1966 TURNER Sports MK3 Modsports / Sprint / Hillclimb project (Not Midget, Sprite, Spitfire, Herald, Lotus, Stiletto)
Originally registered as 1508 VE until 1986 when it was re-registered as TGC 96E, the identity it retains on its V5 with Chassis number 66/0103/PC to this day.
Believed to be the last Mk3 built, it was only semi-completed by the factory before its closure in 1966, hence it is first registered/manufactured in 1967 after completion by The Pit Counter in Derby. This car was well known in England, driven by Bob Mayfield, until circa 1991 when it was brought to Northern Ireland by its present owner to be converted in to a Mod Sports race car. It has wider than standard body work to cover the larger 9” X 15” Compomotive split wheels, but still utilising the Triumph double wishbone front suspension. It comes with a mould for the rear bodywork, plus a spare front section.
The cabin area has been extensively modified using aluminium panels, this was to be as part of its upgrading to ModSports, as the owner had had done to successful Midgets previously. Unfortunately the builder became unwell, and did not recover enough to finish the build, leaving the car as it sits today. It has been in a heated garage during this time and been run periodically.
It’s fantastic condition belies its years, which can be seen in photos, looking purposeful as it still maintains its original Turner windscreen and Scuttle panel.
